My main question is simply: how can I bulk/batch associate many shapes with a single material in Clara?
First off I'm new to Clara and 3d, so apologies for any terminology errors.
I'm importing a STEP file exported from SolidWorks into Clara. The imported file doesn't have any materials associated with the shapes so I have to set that up.
Here's a snippet of what I'm calling the "node hierarchy" that I see in Clara after import:
I'm calling the items with the yellow 3-arrow icons "nodes" and the items with the teapot icon "shapes".
I can manually associate materials 1 shape at a time, but there are hundreds of shapes in the model and it's not really efficient to do them 1 at a time. I see that I can shift-select multiple shapes to assign materials to multiple shapes at once, but that doesn't work across "nodes". The shift-select doesn't correctly select the right nodes when shift-selecting across nodes.
So I need a way to apply a single material to all shapes under a given ancestor "node". For example in my screenshot, I would like to apply a single material to all shapes underneath the "ACC-PWR-JBLOCK-B_ACC-PWR-JBLOCK-B WO-SCREWS" node. What would be perfect is if Clara offered a "Materials" section in the Properties tab when I select that node so that I could simply specify that everything under that node. But it doesn't.
So how can I get all shapes under a given node, including sub-nodes, to be associated with a particular material?
Alternatively is there a way to set up the materials associations in SolidWorks so that the exported STEP model already has the materials set up? I'm getting the SolidWorks file from my client and don't have access to SolidWorks to make changes myself. I have to tell the client how to do it.
Thanks for any tips!
